Thursday January 21, 2010

Wake up around 11:30 this morning. I'm working the closing shift tonight, so I have the afternoon off. I head into the kitchen for some coffee and contemplate a number of possible ways I could spend the afternoon. I opt to clean my room, a task that I have been putting off for the better half of the last month. I finish my coffee and head back into my room to begin what will most likely take up the rest of my afternoon. I throw on the last half of the latest episode of SModcast from yesterday to listen to.

About an hour later, I have surprisingly finished cleaning. It's about 2:00, so I decide to work on the screenplay a bit before heading off to work in a few hours. I wolf down some leftover pizza from last night and get to work. I finish another fifteen pages or so, while also doing some re-writes to the already existing work. It's a hectic process, but it's the first screenplay that I have ever felt this confident about.

I cruise to work around 4:30. I get there and find out I am closing with Nicole, who is a no-nonsense closer at the Bou, which I like, as I am the same way. We bomb around for the first hour or so and get literally EVERYTHING finished. I spend the next three hours working on more of the screenplay.

We get out of work around 9:15. I call Justin to see what's going on tonight and he tells me that he and Mary are at Shanahan's on 75th. I head over to the bar and cruise inside for a much needed beer. I find their table and order up another pitcher for us. I spot the old manager from the Panda Express that was next to my old stomping ground at the Darien Cariobu. We bullshit for awhile about me and Tool opening up Tropical Smoothie in a few months. He's a nice fuckin' guy. One of the few. We finish up our pitcher and get the tab. We pay and then opt to cruise back to my place to have a night-cap.

We get back to my place and bomb upstairs for a drink. We chill out on the couch and catch the rest of the Blackhawks game, which they win. We then throw on the new Office episode that I had on my new kick-ass DVR. The episode is a major letdown. It's basically one of those re-cap episodes where they just show clips from all of the previous seasons. It's kind of funny to re-watch some truly funny moments from over the years, but it feels like we just got cheated an episode. I'm pretty sure this was the first episode of The Office that I have been truly disappointed with.

Once the episode is finished, we grab a few more beers and spend the rest of the night watching the last half of Pineapple Express. That is one movie that truly gets better the more I see it. I personally did not enjoy it the first time I saw it in the theater, as I hated all the pseudo-stoners who thought the movie was a godsend just in lieu of the fact that they "smoke weed" in the movie. I remember hearing little 17 year old boys leaving the theater saying things like, "Man, we need to get some Pineapple Express." And then I realized that kids are stupid. However, the movie has become increasingly more entertaining the more I watch it.

Justin and Mary cruise around 2:00 AM and I hit the bathroom for my nightly routine. I bomb into my room and pass out watching the documentary on the making of Clerks 2.
