I have now dubbed every Monday during the latest season of 24 "Jack Bauer Day". Can you tell I've gotten into the show a bit? I think it's safe to say yes.
My alarm sounds at 10:00 this morning. I get up, shower, get dressed, and head off to another wonderful day at Caribou Coffee... my place of bliss and harmony. I arrive about ten minutes late, as per usual, and I'm greeted by Jill and Ryan, only one of which I am pleased to see. I don't think I need to tell you which one. I cruise into the back room to mentally prepare myself for the long day that awaits me. Ryan is in an exceptionally pissed off mood today, so I bank on him not sticking around very long. You can always tell when Ryan's pissed off because he throws his weight all over the fucking store like a child throwing a tantrum. But, then again, his personality does channel that of a five year old child, so it's not surprising that he pouts like one.
Jill sticks around until noon when she is relieved by Nikki. Ryan cruises out not long after Jill, leaving me and Nikki to do what we do best on our shifts... find ways to not work by any means necessary. I break out my laptop and work on some more of the screenplay while I kill time until 5:00 rolls around. Throughout the day, I keep getting texts from Hart and V asking if I have caught myself up with the last 2 episodes of 24, which I had missed last week. I tell them I am planning on watching them when I get home from work just before the new episode airs. I generally get home around 5:30, leaving me with two and a half hours to catch up. Plenty of time. Or so I think...
5:00 rolls around and I cruise in the back to count the safe before I clock out for the day. I hadn't counted it when I first had arrived, but I didn't get any money out of the safe today, so the petty cash should be right on. Not the case. It's $6 short. And who was the last one to count the safe today? Ryan. That's right. Our great store manager manages to fuck up yet again. I check all the deposits, re-count Nikki's drawer, and even check the total amount of yesterday's bank deposit to see if the dumb ass accidentally gave them too much money for a change order or something. Nope. Everything checks out. I sign off on in the log book, stating as a side note that there is now $6 missing from the safe and the last person to count it, or not count it when they were supposed to, was Ryan. I even highlight the spot in the logbook where he DIDN'T sign. Long story short (or too late), I don't end up leaving work until almost 5:45. I give Edd the heads-up on the missing money and he says he'll make sure his drawer is on when he cashes out at close. I grab my shit and bolt out of the Bou.
Once at home, I instantly set up my computer in my office to start watching the last episodes of 24 on Hulu.com. I get through the first one with no problem. It's now 7:00. The average episode is about 40 to 45 minutes in length, so I should be finishing with at least 15 minutes to spare before tonight's new episode. That's when the problems start. Just as I'm starting the next episode, my computer decides that it's going to stall while loading the video, making it jumpy and freezing every thirty seconds or so. There's no way I'll finish the episode before the new one, which starts at 8:00. Then I remember that I have a fancy new DVR box. I run into the living room and program the sonbitch to record the new episode.
I finally finish the last episode around 8:15 or so. V showed up with about ten minutes left of the episode, but we are still waiting on Hart. V and I decide to peep out the latest episode of Tosh.0 while we wait. We get about half way through the episode when Hart shows up. We throw on 24, and we can now skip through all the commercials. DVR is a beautiful thing.
After the episode is finished, Hart and V cruise home. I get a text from Justin saying that he's at Martel's with Stein and I should cruise by for a bit. I accept the invitation and head over to Martel's, which is only a few blocks away from my place. I get there and they are already pretty toasted. Justin says he's gotta cruise early tonight, so he can only play one more game of beer pong and then he's gotta peace. What started as one game turns into four within the hour. Justin finally throws in the towel around 11:45 or so, as do I. I've got that "perfect buzz" going at this point, so I figure it's as best a time than ever to cruise home. I bid farewell to everyone and make my way back to the condo.
Once at home, I cruise into the bathroom for the nightly routine and then bomb into my bedroom where I crash watching more of Frost/Nixon.
