The Candid Recap of Summer 2010, Part 3 - Monday March 14, 2011

Just realized it's been just about 5 months since I left off at the end of part 2 of the summer 2010 recap. So much other shit has happened over these last 5 months, but I will get into those events at another time. For now, here is the 3rd and final installment in the Candid Recap of Summer 2010.

After the unfortunate end of my Peoria visit, the one where I pretty much found out that my film would not be shot in August, I spent the days leading up to the Michigan trip in pretty heavy despair. I threw my script in my closet, e-mailed everyone the bad news, and pretty much scrapped the entire project right then and there. I needed this vacation desperately. I was hoping to clear my mind of all this bullshit. And that's exactly what I did.

The Pentwater, Michigan trip of 2010 was something for the books. We had such a phenomenal time from the second we got there to the moment we were driving away from the cottages. I won't go into great detail, as it would probably be another 3-part story. All I can say is that my mind felt much more at ease by the trip's end. I still had all my bullshit waiting for me back home, but I felt better about approaching it this time around.

After a few days of pretty much going through what I can only describe as the equivalent to what a detox might feel like (we drank A LOT in Michigan), I decide to give Joey a call and discuss whatever options may be left for my film. I am prepared for the worst, which would be the harsh reality that there might not be any options and the entire project might just have to be scrapped until further notice. As much as it killed me to accept that fact, I was prepared to face it.

Joey and I talked for quite awhile and both ultimately decided that shooting the film was still very much a definite possibility, just not at this very moment. Long story short, we end up agreeing to plan on shooting in December. Ultimately, it will work as a pretty awesome setting for the tone of the film: it's winter, it's cold, everyone's miserable, thus adding to the gloomy feel that I want the film to have. We throw ideas back and forth for a bit, and the longer we talk, the more the project becomes a realistic happening once again. Only this time around, I vow that I will not get as worked up and excited as I did before. I now have four months to prepare for this film, which can also be used as 4 months to prepare for the failure of the project as well. Either way, it gave me considerably more time to figure my shit out.

The remainder of the summer was a fucking blast. We ended it the right way, with a plethora of get-togethers, bon fires, booze, late drunken nights watching the sunrise in the morning, and just great times with the best friends I could ever ask for. All in all, even with all of the unfortunate mishaps, the Summer of 2010 will definitely remain one of my favorite summers. Never thought I'd say it, but this summer actually ranks up there with Summer of 2005, which, for those who remember, was the first summer that my brother and I had the old Tool House after my parents moved to Peoria. That's a bold fucking statement, and it's one I can safely say is an accurate one.

So what happened over the last 5 months? Well, it's a long fuckin' story, and maybe one day I will post about it. For now, all I can tell you is be on the lookout this summer for a film titled, "Drinks", which was written and directed by yours truly...

...I love happy endings. Pun intended.
